THE BEGINNING

Fakira Fab celebrates the timeless art of hand block printing from Ahmedabad, where generations of artisans have kept this traditional craft alive. Rooted in heritage, we create handcrafted textiles using natural dyes and authentic artisan techniques, blending India’s rich textile culture with contemporary fashion.

THE CRAFT

Handblock printing is a traditional textile technique where designs are created using hand-carved wooden blocks, applied to fabric layer by layer.

Each block represents a single color, and one design may require 8–12 blocks aligned carefully by hand. This process takes time, precision, and consistency, which is why no two prints are ever exactly identical.

At Fakira Fab, we work with natural and skin-safe dyes wherever possible - indigo, madder root, turmeric, and other plant-based sources that create depth, softness, and tonal variation within the fabric.

The printing itself is done manually by skilled artisans who work with rhythm and control developed over years of practice. Slight irregularities in print and color are not defects, they are part of the handmade process and what make handcrafted fabrics unique.

WHY WE'RE DIFFERENT

Complete Vertical Control - Most brands outsource different stages of production. Fakira Fab continues to manage block carving, dye preparation, printing, quality checks, and dispatch in-house. This helps maintain consistency, transparency, and better control over craftsmanship.

Traditional Techniques, Modern Relevance - Our work is rooted in traditional Indian handblock printing, but the designs continue to evolve through contemporary color palettes, wearable silhouettes, and versatile patterns suited for modern wardrobes.

Natural & Skin-Safe Dyes - We continue to work with natural and skin-safe dyeing methods wherever possible. Beyond aesthetics, this approach supports breathable fabrics, softer finishes, and a more grounded textile process.

Ahmedabad & Textile Heritage - Fakira Fab continues to operate from Ahmedabad, a city deeply connected to India’s textile history. Working closely with artisans and traditional printing practices allows us to stay connected to the craft while making it relevant for everyday wear today.

When Fakhruddin Ji passed his knowledge to the next generation, the challenge was clear, how to grow without losing the integrity of the craft. The second generation introduced better production systems, expanded printing capabilities, and refined design processes while preserving traditional handblock methods. In 2015, the third generation established Fakira Fab as a brand, building a fully integrated manufacturing setup in Ahmedabad and bringing handcrafted Indian textiles to a wider audience. Today, Fakira Fab continues to create handblock printed fabrics, sarees, dupattas, and unstitched suits that are designed to be worn, used, and valued over time.
